Hello and welcome to another Tuesday To-Do.
I do believe this is 3 weeks in a row? Maybe I'm finally
settling back into my routine!? I'm still working on
visiting everyone else's blogs but I'm getting there.
The weeks just fly by, what can I say? But I made good
progress in the sewing room and I'm here to share it:
Week 42 Progress
1) Pic and list Acornucopia: Done!
84x84
Done!
Acornucopia is made mostly with Woolies flannel with a few
others tossed in. The result is a very soft and very warm quilt.
I feel it would work great for those who like a weighted blanket.
Pattern: Tumbling Acorns by BasicGrey
The extra piecing in the sashing (strips and cornerstones)
along with the on-point setting added time to its
construction but I think it's very worth it. I plan to make it
again in regular cotton so I made good notes in the pattern.
2) Finish second "Pick of the Patch" top and name
Not quite finished but close.
Per the customer's request, I nixed the purple in this one.
I'm not a purple-person myself but I do love what a dark
plum/eggplant purple does with fall colors. Ah well, it works.
I'm further along than as shown above so I should have it
done by next week. (The final pics will show the colors better.)
3) Start on next quilt: No free time for this one yet.
4) Keep purging and packing: Tons done!
Hubs took vacay last week so we hit it pretty hard, esp hubs.
I've never been much of a "stuff" person and well-before the
move was even a thought, I'd been really feeling the weight
of storing things we really don't need or want so this is yet
another example of the great timing of this big change.
So you know what's going to be awesome? Moving into a
new home, bringing only things we need/want. And it sure
gives us both some real peace of mind to know our kids
won't have to take care of our stuff after we're gone.
If you missed part 2 of our big news last week when I shared
the happier part of our Big Change, you can find it here.
I didn't have a pic of our lot for that post but I remembered
to grab another one at our latest meeting with our builder.
Everyone asks us if we're downsizing so when we admit the
house will be bigger, we've gotten some skeptical looks but
it's the land-downsize that we've been after. At just 1 acre,
this will be much easier to care for than our current 2.85.
(We'll move quite a few trees from our current home, btw.)
This (facing east) will be our view out the back of the home...
which means it'll also be the view from my sewing studio!
I want to share a few notes about the sewing studio because
maybe there are some things I haven't thought of?
What would you put in your dream studio?
*At approximately 18x40 Lucey will have plenty of space!
*French doors should help me not feel quite so closed off
and will also match hub's office
*Bathroom
*Outlets in the floor
*Staging area (w/lighting) for photographing quilts
*Desk, sewing table, ironing and cutting stations
*Comfy reading chair, also for hubs/guests to hang out
*TV
*Design wall
*Space/Tables for guests to sew, perhaps for teaching classes?
(esp grandkids)
*Likely keeping my same storage cabinets for fabric because
they work really well for me and I like being able to move
them around. (Not sure about bolt storage yet.)
This is a pretty general list of all that I've been planning,
which is a whole lot as you can imagine. Any other ideas?
Looking to next week:
1) Finish second Pick of the Patch completely
Complete top and back; quilt, label and pic.
2) Start on next quilt
Another customer request; lots of pieces left
from previous versions so should go fast.
3) Pack up formal dining room
We're selling our 3pc dinette set since it doesn't really work
in the new home so all the formal dinner-, stem- and flat-ware
all needs to be carefully packed. No move goes off without
something breaking somewhere and since we're moving twice...
Ack, I don't want to think about it!
If the set sells, we'll have our holiday dinners on folding tables.
Classy, eh? Ah well. Focus on next year's holidays, right!?!
On the fabric-tracking scene, I'm working at
recovering from my shop hop purchases.
2025 Fabric purchased: 178.3 yds
Fabric used: 157.18
Net: 21.12
I sure have no plans to buy fabric for the rest of the year so
I sure have no plans to buy fabric for the rest of the year so
I should have that net back in the negative within a few weeks.
