Week 42: Acornucopia & The Big Change Part 2

Welcome! I'm so glad you've stopped in today.
I have some big news to share so let's get started.

First, a little housekeeping:  due to some technical difficulties,
you may have found yourself unsubscribed.    If this is you,
I am so sorry!  Please re-subscribe!

Last week's to-do's:
Silly me.  I was so distracted by sharing my sad news
last week that I forgot to make my list for this week.
Ah well it would've been a short one anyway because
I stayed very focused on making one big quilt:

1) Acornucopia progress:  Done.
This is not a fast quilt but I sure flew through it.

Need to get pics for listing in shop; pics to come next week,
along with my notes and tips for making it.
I kinda can't wait; it turned out so well!

2) Started a second of "Pick of the Patch" by Wendy Sheppard.

You'll recognize this one from last week.  That one sold
immediately and I already have a request for another.
The fabrics are pulled and cutting has begun.
I hoped to be farther along but there are so many other
things keeping me from some solid focused sewing time.
How about we look into some of that other stuff going on?

Part 2 of Our Big Change
(Here is Part 1 if you need to get caught up.  We'll wait...)

Our current home (older pic)

Last week I shared the sadness, and the necessity, of letting go.
This week I get to share the joy of new adventures!
Drumroll...

We're building a new home!

One that is all ours by design--something we've never had before.
If you'll recall in last week's post, I shared how everything has just
been falling into place.  This part is sure no exception.

One day while out and about, I drove by a brand new development
that I hadn't even known was there.  In driving through it, I found
myself drawn to one particular lot so I snapped a pic and sent it
to the hubs.  Meanwhile, he'd sent me a link that I hadn't had time
to look into (driving!) but we came to discover that we were
both eyeing the same place.  The best part?  It's a couple miles
farther out from the edge of the city than we sit today.

[I can't believe I deleted the lot pic but I'll get one soon to share!]

Sadly, that lot was already reserved but in reserving another,
we got first dibs if it became available again.
Cue the praying!
We now own the lot that first drew me, and eventually the hubs.
The last lake-lot available!  I constantly dream of seeing the sun
rising over the lake, or of the snow coming down on the lake as its
frozen--all while looking out from our cozy new home.  How slow
time seems when I think about this part of our Big Change.
I never thought we'd ever build; now I sure can't wait!

The home we're modeling ours after.
Note the nod (dormers & porch) to our current home.

While waiting out the lot decision, we toured all the model homes
we could find, starting with the unfinished ones right there at
the new development.  The very first home we stepped into struck
us as beautiful but just way too big.  And yet, as we continued
our search, we made a few more trips back through that first one
as it neared completion.  Every time we stepped into it, we felt more
and more at home in it.  As the space evolved, we envisioned what
we could do with these plans...   Incidentally, our boys both came
home for a visit at the same time--kinda rare these days--and we
realized that this home, with all it's space, is exactly what we need.

We are now in discussion with the builder, working to customize
the plans to fit our needs and let me tell you, it is truly going to
be Our Dream Home, with capital letters!
So...have you thought of it yet?  Oh c'mon!  The sewing room!
Yessiree, I am getting the quilt studio of my dreams.
And I'll be able to look out at that lake as I quilt away!
I'm so excited I can barely contain myself...but boy do I have to
contain myself!  It's likely going to be late next fall before we
move in, and here's the toughest part:
I have to live without my longarm that entire time!

As I mentioned, this is technically a commercial sale so the process
takes much longer than just selling a home.  It takes months.
We're set to close on ours in mid-January, perhaps a bit earlier if it
all goes through well.  We've talked about breaking ground on our
new home before we close but let's face it, that's not the wisest move.
Anyhoo, after we close we'll be living in new duplex about 1/2 mile
from our new home.  It's a 4-bedroom but not one single space that
is big enough for Ms. Lucey.  Two bedrooms will be pure storage
but at least I will take over one bedroom for my sewing room.

I'm such a mix of excitement, impatience and a little sadness.

I'm used to such a large space:  a garden, an orchard and a pool.
I might go crazy but I will have my quilting, knitting and golf
and my dreams of our new home to keep me going.
I will be madly punching out quilt tops so that when we finally
get into our Dream Home, I can set about quilting them all up
for my shop in time for the next fall/holiday season.

And now?  I'm looking at just a couple more months with Lucey so
now you know why I'm trying so hard to get so many quilts made!
All while I'm busily trying to purge, and I've recently started selling
things on Facebook Market--a new [and crazy] experience that is
really keeping me hopping.  But everything that we move out is
one less thing we have to move.  Twice. (Ugh, right?)

It's going to be a crazy year, and I'm looking forward to
sharing occasional updates here, especially my new studio!
(Teaser:  think 18X40 with lake-view windows!)
This is what is getting me through the seemingly impossible
task of letting go of our current beloved home, knowing it's
just going to be torn down and I'll never see it again and--
Nope!  Don't go there. Focus on the future!
When one door closes, God opens another.

Focusing on the tasks ahead of me right now,
here are Week 42's To-Do's:

1) Pic and list Acornucopia

2) Finish second "Pick of the Patch" and name

3) Start on next quilt

4) Keep purging and packing
