Tuesday To-Do #36: Ahem

If you can't get excited about quilting this time of year,
maybe you should check your pulse.  Are you alive??

No mojo issues allowed among all the colors of fall!
I should have lots to share on that next week but
today I'm keeping it short (ahem) as I link up to

First, it's time fess up on the fabric tracking issue.
It was not that long ago that I was blissfully in the
negative, getting things used up.
Enter the busy months, a shop hop, store closings...
And just like that I found myself "up" over 46 yards.
Today I'm sitting at a +37.  Sigh.
And do you want some real brutal honesty?
I've added over 144 yds of fabric this year.
That is just more nuts than a squirrel in fall.
Some gifted and/or won but mostly purchased.
This is no problem if I just use more than I buy
which is the only reason I track fabric
(only what goes in and what goes out).
Oh if time would just allow me to get in that
sewing room more, the stuff I would be making!
(More on that next week, too.)

Last week my major to-do was to work on
my current [unnamed] fall quilt.  I made it
as far as getting it into one piece and the
adding on the first border.

Aaaand then had to set it aside.  Again.
(Maybe I should name it "Set Aside"?)

When you've been quilting long enough, it's rare that
anyone in your life still needs a quilt but here I am
in the happy position of needing to supply my
grandkids with quilts for their new-to-them beds.

So, "Set Aside" was, ahem, set aside and I'm now
working on the first of two twin-sized quilts.

Moda's "Goldenrod" by One Canoe Two

I've been making great progress but there seems
to have been a little, ahem, misfiguring on my part...
Well, more fabric is on the way.

This was probably not the best time for me to finally
(after 4 years) take my long arm in for a tune-up
but I guess I like to live on the edge.  I've been assured
(ahem) a short 1-2 week turn-around, though, so I'm
going to focus on completing the tops and things
will time nicely.  I'm just sure of it.  (Ahem...)

So my to-do's for next week:
*Finish "Gwynnie's Goldenrod" top
*Choose Jonah's pattern and fabrics
*Set Aside will just stay set aside
(I'm not really naming it that, btw!)

Go show your machine some love!
Happy fall quilting!

the fall quilt is beautiful and I like what you have chosen for your Grand.
If anyone deserves to stock up on fabric, it is you, Cheree! We know you'll use it in your prolific quilt-making. Lucky grandkids, too - I'll enjoy seeing your quilts for their new beds.

Well, you know now that Set Aside is gonna stick as a name, right?! And you also know now that you should never let your fabric drop into the negative zone - look what happened! Haha! I say crack open another nut, kick back, and quit worrying about all that fabric. It'll be used up before you know it! Fun that you are making grandkiddo quilts (I may never get to that stage of life). Set Aside is a gorgeous quilt, by the way. You can set it aside for me (wink). Okay, I've had enough fun now!

Hi Cheree! Ooh, Gwynnie's Goldenrod blocks look gorgeous. Two twin-size quilts sound like loads of fun. Why did my littles go into a queen- and full-size bed?!! I think Set Aside is going to stick as that quilt's name . . . just saying. AND, you knew darn well that you were going to stock up during the shop hop - that's the whole point!! Plus, you can't foresee a store closing and the bargains that presented themselves to you. It would be a pity to turn a blind eye to those opportunities. You'll find good uses for all of it. I'm certain of it. Soon, you'll be hunkering down - unable to go out because of ice or snowstorms. Or you could name the quilt Ahem! ~smile~ Roseanne

Poor Set Aside!! LOL. My Fox and Geese likely feels the same way! It's not getting done and my 2021 UFO Challenge will be broken if it doesn't make it out of 2021 as a FO! Love the new project, the fabric is adorable.

Set Aside would be a fun name. I'm with you on the +144 yards this year. Probably more. To be honest, I've never added up the numbers because I'd rather be in ignorance than have to admit how many yards I bought. Maybe next year I'll manage to sew down my stash.
I just love that “unnamed” Fall Quilt - how about Dashing to Fall for a name! LOL Hugs

Good thing you’re stocking up as I heard cotton prices are going through the roof. You’ll be happy to have plenty to keep you busy. lol
Hi Cheree, you have Jonah and Gwynnie waiting for quilts which is a good motivation right there. That fabric is gorgeous. I love how you keep track of your yardage;it might just frighten me a little if I did that too. I'm also into cross stitch and wool so, yes it definitely would be a little scary to really know what's in that room. Love your fall quilt.
Sorry to read about your favourite restaurant closing and also the quilt shop. That sucks!
Getting caught up on blog reading (6 weeks). Happy belated Birthdays! If you were in Wisconsin, then you were just north of me (northern Illinois). Lovely decorations. I miss shop hops. Sorry about places closing. Great that you got to have the BBQ for your son and the cadets. As for sewing mojo, none around here at the moment.
