Tuesday To-Do #13: April Beginnings

I don't have a to-do list from last week to check off
but I'm still here today with progress to show.

I've been flying through my Nine-Patch Hourglass!
After only a few days in the sewing room,
the blocks are pieced and sewn into rows.

(Pic from last year)

Out in the garden, I am continuing to show restraint.
One example:  I've settled on planting just green
cabbage, nixing Nappa and red cabbage.  They are
all so much better from the garden than the grocery
store but I'm tired of fighting the moths/worms
so maybe just one kind per year from now on?
To prove my point, the day after I planted this year's,
I saw the first cabbage moth flying around.
(I think it's likely the nasty thing came in on the
plants themselves, though did look them over.)

(Another pic from last year)

The green onions, red & white radishes, lettuces,
spinach, beets and carrots are all in.  Herbs
are
being planted and a second strawberry
patch has been started.  (Asparagus and
strawberries fill up three permanent beds;
six more are for rotating regular vegetables.)

On to next week's to-do's:

Nine-Patch Hourglass
Finish top, work on borders; piece backing.

HST's
I've slacked here so it's time to get a
table topper made.

Gardening
It's going to be very warm this week so I'll
probably just water and watch things grow.
And kill the cabbage moth.

Good luck to everyone on their projects
and happy quilting!

Reminder:  if you don't get a reply from me, you are
likely a no-reply blogger.  I'd love to be able to reply
but it's fine if you prefer that status.  Just know that
I am seeing your comments--and thank you!

Your 9 Patch Hourglass is a great design! I love what the hourglass blocks do for the 9 patches in the secondary design. I used to grow broccoli, but hated those little worms hidden in the broccoli heads that would surprise me every time! So, I can understand your change in planting. So many homegrown veggies will be delicious for you, though!

That a big beautiful garden you have, I like planting and harvesting. I’m not so good with the work that must be done in between! The garden centers are just starting to open around here. So I will get some tomatoes plants to go in pots that I can move in and out of the garage. Snow is predicted this week again. It was 70+ over the Easter weekend! That’s Wyoming for ya.
Good luck on your HST table topper,

I admire your green thumb! I am hopeless at gardening, just hate getting my hands dirty. LOL! Your Nine patch is awesome. Thanks for linking up today!

Your garden sounds amazing!!! We have just a few things planted (shallots, green onions, parsley and celery) We need to wait a bit for the weather to warm up at night.

Hi Cheree! Your nine-patch hour glass quilt came together so quickly! I love those fabrics you chose for it. Do you plan on adding borders? I think it looks great without them . . . just curious. Good job on your garden - you'll be enjoying all of that before you know it. ~smile~ Roseanne

I suspected you would zip right through that quilt, and you have! I remember my mom battling cabbage moths when I was a kid. I can still see the can of stuff she sprinkled on the cabbage. Anyway, you've been making good progress on things around the Morning Latte farm!
you have a very nice garden, I pretty much stopped gardening very much over the fight of small critters or deer eating things so finally hubby said he will build a fence - but instead of something simple he started doing one that takes him more time (he is slow) he will have it done this spring but by time he gets done it might be too late to plant somethings because the heat of summer will come before you know it - next spring though I wish to put in strawberries - is it better to plant strawberries in the spring or fall I wonder

Love seeing your garden! We haven't had much luck with cabbage either, with the exception of bok choy. And I don't do well with bugs (no surprise there, surely).

Great progress on the Nine Patch! It’s nice to see the garden starting up too.
That nine patch quilt is lovely! Your garden looks amazing, and it will be providing so much that's good to eat in just a short while.
