Week 9: 1776 Progress; Sew, Golf, Pack, Knit & Repeat.

Welcome to another progress-check here at the Morning Latte.

Our weather warmed up--too much--so there has been lots
of golf which has been great but it does take away from my
sewing time.  Add in our move efforts and I'm not too focused
on posting progress weekly right now.
It makes more sense just to share it as it comes.

So let's get on with what we're here for:

1) Patriotic quilt #2:  1776 (or maybe Yorktown?)

If you're making this one, you might note the 4-at-a-time
flying geese method used for the star legs.  Does this really
save time?  Mark, sew, cut, mark, sew, cut and then trim....
Probably not, even tho I'm using Primitive Gatherings'
seam tape which is really helpful (more on that in a bit).

So I'm just tossing this out there:
If you prefer a different method, you'll want to make your
adjustments before cutting.  Personally, it's not my favorite
method but I also don't mind switching things up

Other tips:
* Use starch.  I didn't think of it in time but it sure would have
helped with the tiny stars so I noted it for next time.

*Trim star blocks:  You'd think I'd know better but this is
what happens when I drag a project out over too much time.
I forget from day-to-day things like this so I had to ease some
of the 3-star sets a whole 1/4" when sewing onto the flag block.

Back to that seam tape...
When that first diagonal seam tape came out,  I thought it
was the greatest.  But it got grungy and started to peel up
so I switched it out constantly and eventually, it began
leaving "goo" behind.  Easily cleaned up but still...

Sooo much better, especially if you have a clear extension table.
I put this strip on the bottom side of my ext. table and I've not
switched it out once.  In YEARS.  I cut a piece for on the top of
the bobbin case cover and haven't had to replace it yet, either.

Not sure why it comes in packs of 7 but I appreciate having
the back-ups...even though I don't seem seam to need them.
I also like that it's larger with better markings.

As for my progress on this one, here ya go:

It's very slow-going;  I had hoped to get at least 1 or 2 more
quilts made before packing Lucey up but I've now decided
that no one needs that stress, most especially me ๐Ÿ˜‰.

So my only goal for the week ahead is to get all of these
blocks done and into a finished top.
It's almost time to close up shop (half of which is already packed)
so if this is going to get quilted, I need to pick up the pace.  Now.

3) Finish knitting UFOs, starting with socks.

I did pull out the socks, er, sock-singular but I'm still trying to
find the pattern that I was using.  Pretty close to frogging it
and starting over.
Note to self:  MAKE NOTES, DUMMY!

While I mull that over, I'm working on small items in the eves,
and at other random times.  Above I'm actually sitting in our
sunroom because, now that we're leaving this house, I thought
I'd finally take the time to enjoy that room and its beautiful
views...because we never seemed to make time for it in all the
years we've been here.  Isn't that just the way it goes??

Note to self:  In the new house, take the time!

I finished 3 gifts and am working on some dishcloths because
they're so relaxing [mindless], and a bit addictive, to work on.
I've never been a fan of knitted dishcloths but I've found just the
right pattern and yarn to create one that has become my fave
to actually use, too.  I expect to have a whole collection of them
by the time we move into the new chez.

Pattern found in:  The Knitter's Year by Debbie Bliss
Yarn:  Catania by Schachenmayr

4) Work out my plans for 2026
Currently in progress...sort of.

5) Golfing
It's great to get back at it, out in the sun and fresh air, finally
getting my steps in again (averaging 6-7 miles/day) but with
all we have going on, it is kinda wearing me out.
But at the same time, it keeps my muscles loose and
me a somewhat-functioning human being so...so be it.

6) Move efforts
Things are ramping up.  Walls and shelves are mostly empty.
We've purged about all we can (but we keep looking!).
Garage/shop items, along with any house items that can
take the summer heat, are off in a Pod or in a storage unit.
Wood racks, garden beds, garden stones, etc?  All moved out!
We do believe that the hardest part is done but there is still
so much left to do.  Thank goodness we've hired movers for
the actual furniture and such.

Now for the real question:  Have we broken ground yet?
Nope.  And we're already 5 weeks behind schedule.
(And great weather almost every day of those weeks!)
We've chewed through over half of the 60 day grace/delay
allotment that the builder included in the schedule and we
haven't even broken ground.  I don't think I need to describe
our frustration right now, especially knowing the spring rains
could kick in at any time.

UPDATE!
Later that evening...
Little did I know that while typing this, the contractors
had actually begun digging!

Well, I've digressed enough.  Time to get back to it!
 Sew.
Golf.
Pack.
Knit.
Repeat.
Happy all-of-it.

Sorry they haven't broken ground yet. That is frustrating! I'm hoping to post soon. My large quilt guild is having a quilt show next weekend, and I have 17 items entered. I've been way too busy trying to finish quilts to blog (just finished last one today).

Just so much in this post, and it's all good! I didn't know about that seam tape, although I don't have a clear sewing table thingy. Glad it helps though! I think many of us get the "make notes" note - haha!

I love that patriotic quilt! But those are a lot of tiny stars to make. Glad you have that and golf to keep your blood pressure under control while you deal with construction issues. I don't think building is ever easy or on schedule.
Your flag quilt looks like a sweet design! Those must be some tiny stars. I hope things get moving on your new house - that must be frustrating. Some time for golf is always good - we're just getting to the good weather!
Love that pretty quilt, no matter what you call it. Yay on getting to play golf, you need it to deal with your frustration! Praying your new home gets started soon.
So glad you were proven wrong on breaking ground! ๐Ÿ˜

I’m glad you’re getting out to golf. It’s good for the soul and keeping you limber. I’m sure with all you’ve got going on it’s a wee bit meditative to get out in the sunshine. Love that sweet patriotic quilt. Glad to read your update that they’ve finally broken ground. Thank you for sharing your post on To Do Tuesday. ๐Ÿ˜ Carol

Sorry you haven't broken ground yet; so frustrating. I'm happy for you that your weather is allowing for lots of golf. I have somehow never seen that stitch-and-flip tape before. Off to explore it.

Ahhh, the flurry of a life in motion! At least you were able to get some work done on the Flag quilt (love that design BTW). Yeah, project notes -- especially for projects you haven't touched in a while -- are a god-send! Also good you could take some down-time for yourself and do a little golfing. Yes, there's a point in the moving process when empty shelves/rooms make you go "Okay, this is really happening!" I look at your sock knitting and think, "does she realize how far ahead she is of those of us that, ahem, haven't even started on their numerous balls of sock yarn?" Remember, if you keep in the direction you're going, you will eventually get to where you want to be!
